Join me for a Workshop!

I have been itching to start teaching again and I think I have found a nice way to ease myself back into the swing of things... workshops!

I am going to hold 3 workshops, one in each of the next three months in my home studio.  The class sizes will be small and will vary depending on the workshop.  I have included a knitting, an embroidery and sewing workshop to have a little variety.  Also, it is a good way to stay motivated and improve on skills.  Below you will find more details on each of the workshops :)

Arm Knitted Infinity Scarf:
This workshop is for kids that already know how to knit or want to learn.  What is great about this project is that you only need 1 or 2 skeins (depends on your preference) of yarn and your arms.  That's it!! It is really fun and addicting.  With the skills learned in this workshop, children will be able to make all sorts of other projects like blankets, pillows, scarves and more.

Date: January 31, 2015
Time: 10 am - Noon
Fee: $50
Class size: 6 kids

Valentine's Embroidery Pillow:
In this embroidery workshop students will learn how to create their own design and use simple embroidery stitches to make an ordinary pillow case extraordinary.  Since this workshop is held on Valentine's day, I embroidered a fun heart inspired motif, but with the skills learned in this workshop you can use it for all sorts of holidays or occasions.  Embroidery can be put on any fabric item that you wish to spice up and make one of a kind.  Students will be asked to bring in an item they wish to decorate, though I will be working on a pillowcase.

Date: February 14, 2015
Time: 10am- 12:30 pm
Fee: $50
Class size: 6 kids

Make your own Pillowcase:
Do you want to learn some basic sewing skills while brightening up your bed? Learn how to make a fun pillowcase that has no seams.  Students will learn how to use a sewing machine (or it can be a refresher course) to complete the project.  A sewing machine, cutting materials and thread will be provided.  Students will be responsible for bringing fabric of their choice for their pillowcase.

Date: March 14, 2015
Time: 10:00am- 11:30am
Fee: $65
Class size: 4 kids

That's a wrap

What a nice calm knitting day to end School of Crafts summer. This weeks girls were wonderful to hang with! I wasn't able to get all the finishes photographed but I got a few progress shots :)

 Seaming up her sweater :)

Chatting and knitting :) love how great everyone got along even though they didn't know each other

One wrist warmer done and the other being knitted up

Getting comfy

And a little break for a selfie :)

Thanks to my students this week. You guys rock! I hope you guys continue to practice knitting and hopefully we will see each other next year :)

To all my campers this summer,
Thanks for making my job so much fun!! I had a great time creating with you all and am already hashing out plans for next summer. Enjoy the last couple weeks of break.
Hugs,
Natalie

Slow and steady

I kept repeating this phrase today. Knitting is a slower "sport" than sewing. There is a lack of immediate gratification. Especially for newbies just learning. There was lots of progress though today. Not too much to show through pictures except happy knitting people :)

Some even got comfy knitting in the rocking chair :)

This girl is one happy camper! She just finished knitting all the pieces to her sweater (she had it already started before the start of  camp) :)

Excited to see some finished projects over the next 2 days!

Let's go bring back SUMMER!

Oh how I love little Olaf from Frozen :) I'm feeling a bit like him today. My fingers are frozen as I'm typing (a slight exaggeration) and I'm dreaming of summer.  Well... really I'm planning my summer camp schedule.

It's another year of only morning camps unfortunately :( My live in babysitter, also known to my kids as Grandma, has moved to NYC for a year to help my sister with her son. It has been quite the adjustment over here. I went from having 1 kid and the best help anytime I needed, to 2 kiddos and no grandma! Yeah it wasn't pretty at first... the reason you haven't heard much from me and why I haven't been teaching. Luckily I have gotten into a good groove and am feeling like I have 2 feet on solid ground :) Despite feeling good in my role as mom of 2, I won't get Grandma back till September so I am not loading myself too heavily over the summer.

The full schedule of classes is posted on the "summer camp" tab at the top. You can also click here to check it out.
I still need to get some dates confirmed with Arlington Parks & Rec. to decide on a registration date, but as soon as I hear back I will post when registration will start. Registration will begin The morning of February 18th  I also plan on sending an email to my list serve so if you would like to be included please let me know (schoolofcrafts(at)gmail(dot)com).

Some super fun news...
I also have been planning some workshops to teach in the next few months. I'm finalizing the details and will be posting dates and projects tomorrow. I have missed teaching and am eager to start again :)

I hope you will be able to join me for a workshop or camp in 2015!
